This is when Shawn determines whether or not he is able to assist you. This can be done over the phone. Shawn can let you know how he can help your child, as well as answer any questions you may have. You will not be asked to commit right away, and don’t worry, you will not be contacted again without your consent. Fifteen minute phone call.
During this initial consultation, Shawn meets with parents or guardians to outline short- and long-term objectives. Together, they establish a consistent session schedule, typically spanning 1-3 days per week. Shawn then begins implementing strategies to enhance your family's dynamics.
These sessions may involve one-on-one interaction with the child or include parents/guardians, allowing Shawn to provide guidance and support. You'll receive regular reports and communications with valuable insights and actionable steps, whether conducted in-person or virtually.
Steps
Philosophy
Shawn's approach begins with meeting the parents first. These initial sessions are tailored to ensure that both parents are fully aligned and on the same page regarding the goals and strategies for their child's therapy journey. Shawn understands the importance of parental unity in implementing effective interventions and creating a supportive home environment for the child.
During these meetings, Shawn devotes as much time as necessary to address any concerns, clarify expectations, and establish a collaborative partnership with the parents. He provides a safe space for open communication, actively listening to the parents' perspectives and offering guidance and support as needed. Shawn's goal is to empower parents with the knowledge and tools they need to play an active role in their child's therapeutic process.
By investing time upfront to build a strong rapport and mutual understanding with the parents, Shawn lays the foundation for a productive and successful therapy journey for the child. With both parents fully engaged and committed to the process, Shawn can effectively implement interventions that address the child's specific needs and support the family as a whole.
A tailored approach based on your needs.
Shawn is committed to working with you to determine the level of assistance your child requires, and to building a supportive program around it. He bridges the developmental gaps and expands your child’s learning potential. Shawn has experience working with children of varying ages and abilities.
From the comfort of your home.
Shawn works with your child in your home environment so that he can observe your child’s behaviour in an environment that’s familiar to them. This helps Shawn arrive at solutions quicker than if sessions were held in an unusual setting like an office.
Therapy at home also allows parents to work on therapeutic goals with materials available at home. Beyond the therapeutic benefits, therapy at home provides parents the convenience of having one less appointment to drive their child to and more time to spend with their child.
Shawn's philosophy revolves around fostering a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic environment where parents and children feel empowered to explore their challenges, strengths, and goals. He believes in the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance based on trust, respect, and empathy, and tailors his approach to meet each client's unique needs and preferences. Shawn integrates evidence-based techniques with a person-centered approach, focusing on promoting insight, resilience, and positive change. He views therapy as a journey of self-discovery and growth, guiding clients towards greater self-awareness, emotional well-being, and fulfillment in life.

The Result
An improved quality of life for the whole family, by helping your child build age-appropriate skills and confidence.
In-Person Therapy
Shawn employs various techniques like art therapy, social play, games, role play, and positive reinforcement. He works one-on-one with the child at home and occasionally meets with the whole family. Shawn helps children adapt to outside environments through excursions. He focuses on applied behavior methods, aiding in communication, social skills, independence, behavior, and more.
Online Therapy
For remote therapy, if it suits the child, Shawn will conduct one-on-one sessions using online exercises and video conferencing. He will also meet with you to assist in supporting your child. All you need is a computer equipped with a microphone and video camera, along with an internet connection. We'll help you find a video conferencing program that suits your needs at no cost.
Parent meetings are primarily conducted online, offering a convenient and accessible option for all participants. This virtual format allows parents to join from the comfort of their own homes or offices, eliminating the need for travel and accommodating busy schedules.
Sometimes It Takes a Team
Shawn’s holistic approach covers all areas of a child’s development. Shawn’s focus is behaviour and cognition, and he may carefully assemble a team of specialists such as tutors, speech pathologists, etc. whenever the child would benefit most from these resources. He remains in regular contact with the team to ensure your child is receiving the best help, by observing the child’s classroom, home environment, present specialists, etc.
